Yakage town is said to be the origin of Go in Japan. Kibi no Makibi, a famous scholar in the Nara period, visited China (Tang dynasty) and brought lots of cultural goods to Japan. The game of Go and the art of embroidery were the most notable ones. |
Kurashiki is a historic city known for its importance as rice distribution center in the Edo period. The name Kurashiki can be roughly translated as "town of warehouses", which refers to the warehouses where the rice was kept. Today many of these former warehouses have been converted into museums, boutiques and cafes. |
